Florida visitors 2015

In news out this morning from Visit Florida, the amount of Florida visitors has increased by 5.8% year-on-year  in the first half of 2015, with a total of 54.1 million national and international guests.

This is great news for Orlando as this puts the city on target to break 65 million visitors this year. With the announcement that Star Wars is to be a new theme park in Orlando, the future is looking fantastic.

“I am proud to announce the Sunshine State continued our record-breaking success and welcomed the most visitors in Florida’s history over the first half of the year,” Gov. Rick Scott stated in a press release. “Our growing tourism industry employs over 1.2 million Floridians and is helping us meet our goal of becoming the best place in the world for jobs. We are excited to mark the first half of 2015 with our biggest second quarter ever, and we look forward to exceeding our goal of 100 million visitors to Florida this year.”

More than one in every 20 residents in the Florida population are employed through the tourist sector and if we remove the retirees and children that number looks to be around one in ten. Perhaps Florida being the No.1 travel destination in th world has something to do with these numbers.

Tennis in Orlando

US Tennis Association moves to Lake Nona in Orlando, FloridaTennis in Orlando is about to become a lot more serious. Lake Nona seems to be going from strength to strength as the months go by. The latest development is the newly planned USTA Community Tennis and Player Development. In short the USTA (United States Tennis Association) are moving their headquarters to Lake Nona from Boca Raton.

This new facility will include 100 tennis courts with a mixture of hard and clay surfaces. There will be dedicated areas catering to young players, future pros and professional players. This kind of huge investment into tennis will not only ensure the long term growth of American players but will no doubt attract thousands of international players. I know for sure that our Brazilian clients will be delighted with the prospect of having professional facilities available in the city.

The project will provide unparalleled playing, training and educational experience for players and coaches of all ability levels as well as for the spectators. Recreational players will also be welcome regardless of age or ability.

Scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2016 the 270,000-square-foot complex project is located on 63 acres of land in Lake Nona. The complex will host a range of events from youth teams to national championships and even for seniors of 90 and over

The complex will include:

— Tournament and League Area – This area will include 24 clay courts and 16 hard courts. The space will include two player pavilions and a tournament administration office which will include trainer rooms, a stringer area, player lounge, public restrooms, and a check-in area. It will let the USTA deliver events like never before and will set a new functional standard for the sport.

— Collegiate Tennis Area – This area will feature 12 hard courts and one future tournament show court, and will serve as the home of the University of Central Florida’s Men’s and Women’s Varsity Tennis Program. The courts will be equipped with high mast lighting for televised events and have elevated seating for 1,200 people with room on the north and south end for additional seating. The area will allow two collegiate matches to be played simultaneously. Additionally, it will feature a two-story pavilion for concessions, public restrooms, team locker rooms, and areas for trainers and officials.

— Team USA Area – This area will include eight hard courts and eight clay courts. The courts will be utilized by the 17 USTA Sections, along with coaches and their players throughout the country to work collaboratively with USTA Player Development.

— High Performance and Player Development Area – This area will include eight hard courts, eight red clay courts, and six covered courts for the USTA Player Development division. The space includes dormitories that can house 32 boys and girls. The strength and conditioning area will include a sand and workout area. In addition, the area will be utilized for Team USA Events.

— 36/60’ Tennis – This area will include eight 36’ and eight 60’ courts enabling youth and adults to develop their games.

— USTA Office Building – The ground floor will include a tennis pro shop, fitness area, locker rooms, player lounge, and cafeteria with USTA offices occupying the second and third floors.

— Technology – The facility will be an epicenter for tennis innovation and education. It will incorporate the latest technology to provide an unparalleled playing, training and educational experience for players, coaches and spectators.

 Property in Lake Nona

Whether you like tennis or not this is a huge win for Orlando and especially the Lake Nona area and we expect to see a huge influx of investment into the area by players and their families who wish to train at the best tennis facility in the U.S and quite possibly the world.

Take a look at some of the great properties in Lake Nona which are currently available. If you are not buying this year you can watch prices in Lake Nona increase as demand for the area attracts investors as we get closer the completion of the USTA project.

Orlando the most visited city in the world

Orlando is unofficially the most visited city in the world

Recently London hit the headlines as the worlds most visited city, narrowly taking the title from Paris. This has caused a ruckus between London and Paris as the French have yet to release their official numbers. Regardless of what their numbers proclaim the results will no doubt be very close. It is also completely wrong in my opinion.  As an Orlando resident of over 30 years, I am not too happy with the results!
