Florida visitors 2015

In news out this morning from Visit Florida, the amount of Florida visitors has increased by 5.8% year-on-year  in the first half of 2015, with a total of 54.1 million national and international guests.

This is great news for Orlando as this puts the city on target to break 65 million visitors this year. With the announcement that Star Wars is to be a new theme park in Orlando, the future is looking fantastic.

“I am proud to announce the Sunshine State continued our record-breaking success and welcomed the most visitors in Florida’s history over the first half of the year,” Gov. Rick Scott stated in a press release. “Our growing tourism industry employs over 1.2 million Floridians and is helping us meet our goal of becoming the best place in the world for jobs. We are excited to mark the first half of 2015 with our biggest second quarter ever, and we look forward to exceeding our goal of 100 million visitors to Florida this year.”

More than one in every 20 residents in the Florida population are employed through the tourist sector and if we remove the retirees and children that number looks to be around one in ten. Perhaps Florida being the No.1 travel destination in th world has something to do with these numbers.
